the optimal adoption journey

Microsoft acquires RiskIQ to expand its cybersecurity expertise

Microsoft announced on July 12 that it has acquired cybersecurity company RiskIQ. With the increase in cyberattacks, Microsoft is now on a mission to improve cybersecurity, especially with the rise in popularity of hybrid work.

RiskIQ

Founded in 2009, RiskIQ is a cybersecurity company based in San Francisco. They provide cloud-based software as a service to organizations to detect phishing, fraud, malware as well as other online security threats. Their clients include big names like Facebook, BMW, American Express Co. and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

RiskIQ was designed to preserve the original promise of the Internet, which is to bring people together, create connections around the world and ensure that those connections are secure and worth defending every day.

They have agreed to the deal with Microsoft to expand and accelerate their reach and impact. It will also allow them to execute their mission on a larger scale. Together, they want to empower their customers to proactively detect and defend against all online threats.

“RiskIQ’s vision and mission is to provide unparalleled Internet visibility and intelligence to better protect and inform our clients’ and partners’ security programs. We are excited to add RiskIQ’s attack surface and threat intelligence solutions to the Microsoft security portfolio, extending and accelerating our impact. Our combined capabilities will enable best-in-class protection, investigation and response against today’s threats.”

– Elias Manousos, co-founder and CEO of RiskIQ

Microsoft wants to improve cybersecurity

Businesses are increasingly using cloud solutions. Hybrid work has accelerated this digital transformation, and users have faced a huge growth in cyberattacks in the past year.

Microsoft wants to help customers gain a more complete view of the global threats to their businesses, better understand vulnerable Internet-related assets and build intelligence banks on those threats.

They have recently added security features to some of their products and have hired resources that are tasked with detecting vulnerabilities in their products.

RiskIQ is not the only company Microsoft has acquired to expand their security capabilities. They also acquired ReFirm Labs, a maker of technology to secure devices, last month. In addition, they said that 3,500 of their employees work on security and are on a mission to help protect their customers.
