Security Breach at LinkedIn

WARNING! A massive LinkedIn security breach has arisen, and 92% (700M) of LinkedIn accounts are now for sale on the Dark Web.

The hacker who obtained the data has published a sample of information, in the form of a million profiles, and checks confirm that the data is genuine and up-to-date.

Information includes, but is not limited to: email addresses, full names, phone numbers, home addresses, LinkedIn names and profiles, work experiences, genders, and usernames on various social networks. But last we heard; no password has been breached.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Change your LinkedIn password as quickly as possible
  • Force reconnection of connected devices
  • If your password is a “recycled” one with other platforms / services, you should also change these other passwords to new, unique passwords
  • Enable multi-factor authentication on your LinkedIn account to improve security and reduce the impact of such a leak in the future

To have a secure password:

  • Use punctuation marks and numbers
  • Combine upper and lower case letters
  • Replace characters with other characters of a similar appearance, such as zero 0 to replace letter O, $ sign for letter S, etc.
  • Do not use personal information as a password, for example your dog’s name or your date of birth
  • Do not use the same password on multiple platforms

Also be aware that any such leak will expose compromised users to more phishing scams in the coming weeks and months.

We invite you to be very careful, and do not hesitate to share this information with your network so that everyone is safe!
