Microsoft acquires CloudKnox Security

Microsoft announced on July 12 the acquisition of cybersecurity company RiskIQ, now it’s CloudKnox Security’s turn.

As seen in our article on the acquisition of RiskIQ, with the increase in cyber attacks, Microsoft is on a mission to improve cybersecurity, especially with the rise in popularity of hybrid work. This is the fourth cybersecurity company acquisition since April 2021 for Microsoft. (Kinvolk, ReFirm Labs, RiskIQ as well as CloudKnox)

CloudKnox Security

It was on July 21, 2021 that Microsoft made the announcement of the acquisition of CloudKnox Security. Founded in 2015, CloudKnox Security is a leader in cloud infrastructure rights management. It is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.

CloudKnox is the only cloud entitlement management platform that offers automated remediation and continuous monitoring. It provides complete visibility into user access to reduce risk. In addition, it uses continuous analytics to prevent security breaches and ensure compliance.

“We saw opportunities to deliver even more value and a seamless hybrid and multi-cloud experience with deeper integrations within the Microsoft ecosystem. By joining Microsoft, we can develop new synergies and make it easier for our joint customers to protect their multi-cloud and hybrid environments and strengthen their security posture.”

– Balaji Parimi, CloudKnox Founder, CEO

Microsoft’s Take On The Acquisition

Organizations are increasingly integrating hybrid work, resulting in more and more cloud services being deployed across enterprises. This growth exposes organizations to new attack vectors that expose businesses to infiltration as well as disruption of their information.

Microsoft is committed through this acquisition to providing their customers with privileged access management of their data, identity governance and rights management as :

  • Automated and simplified access policy enforcement in an integrated multi-cloud platform for all human identities ;
  • The broadest range of machine learning-based anomaly detection;
  • Seamless integration with other Microsoft cloud security services, including Microsoft 365 Defender, Azure Defender, and Azure Sentinel.

In Short

Microsoft’s tools are positioned to help strengthen and defend the future of hybrid work and multi-cloud environments, providing visibility, control and constant monitoring with a Zero Trust approach.
