Fake Microsoft Teams Updates Hide Viruses

Not long ago, MS Solutions notified you of an upsurge in phishing campaigns that resembled a Microsoft Teams notification. New phishing campaigns have surfaced in recent days, similar to advertisements promoting Microsoft Teams updates. These bogus ads actually hide malware designed to infiltrate your corporate network and lock down your devices with ransomware.

The idea behind this deceptive advertisement is to trick you into believing that a Microsoft Teams update is available, and that you need to update the application. By clicking on the provided link, you will be prompted to install a file that will allow hackers to gain access to your computer and your sensitive data. Be careful, as these ads may be shown to you on websites or in search results; do not click on them.

Their main targets are, not surprisingly, businesses and schools, which in times of pandemic make heavy use of the Microsoft Teams platform.

Some tips to avoid viruses:

It is very important to be vigilant and aware of the risks involved when using any technology. It is essential to raise awareness among your work teams by explaining the best practices to adopt when suspicious software is presented to them.

Another tip that applies to this scenario: update your software directly through the software itself, as this will help you avoid unpleasant surprises.

In short…

It is important to remain very vigilant and to inform yourself before making updates found in search results. We recommend that you follow cybersecurity training to raise awareness among your employees; consider carrying out a security audit of your computer network to identify present vulnerabilities or a penetration test to confirm the tightness of your protection mechanisms.
