Cybersecurity: Think About The Safety Of Your Employees

It is important to recognize the threats that your IT environment may face, in order to anticipate them and act proactively. It is therefore essential for everyone, from business owners to employees, to familiarize themselves with this issue. It is also advisable to develop a cybersecurity plan to avoid malicious attacks and the potential loss of sensitive data. Here is what we recommend:

Why Develop A Cybersecurity Plan?

Managing the security of a company’s entire computer network is still more delicate than managing personal computer security. Indeed, ensuring that all members of a large network respect the rules conducive to the security of the company is in itself a major challenge.

It should be noted that cybercriminals tend to target companies based on the amount of sensitive data they contain, and in particular those with a greater number of people on the same network, as the entry points are more accessible.

This is why we strongly advise putting in place a cybersecurity plan for your corporate network. This plan may include restricting employee access to certain websites, collaborating with an expert cybersecurity company, or raising employee awareness of the risks associated with cyber threats. Training the members of an organization on these issues is an excellent way to reduce your risk of cyberattack.

What Should Be Considered In Your Cybersecurity Plan?

  • Define The Use Of The Internet Within Your Company

Clearly defined restrictions on internet use is essential. This includes, for example, restricting access to certain websites, guidelines on software or extensions that employees can download to their workstations, and requirements for creating passwords on company devices.

  • Be Vigilant And Preventative On Email Risks

Using emails as a gateway is a very common technique used by cybercriminals to steal sensitive data from victims. It is therefore important to put in place certain rules in order to avoid any risk:

    • Put a sending limit on personal emails sent by employees
    • Allow the sharing of the professional email addresses of employees only to certain organizations
    • Educate employees so that they can recognize a suspicious email (we talk about this more in this article)
    • Avoid opening links or attachments that come from a suspicious or unknown email address
  • Raising Awareness Of The Dangers Of Social Media

Nowadays, the majority of companies, as well as employees, have an account on multiple social networks, so one must be careful in its use:

    • Give guidance to employees on what can and cannot be shared on social media
    • Do not publish confidential and private information
  • Establish More Vigilant Policies During Teleworking

The risks incurred while teleworking are higher, because employees use their own devices to work. A more restrictive cybersecurity management policy must therefore be established. Read this article for more about possible cybersecurity risks in a teleworking context.

In short

Having a defined plan for your business cybersecurity is essential and will save you from many risks. If you want to establish a cybersecurity plan, or need more advice on your company’s IT security, contact one of our experts, or take a training course.
